Do you enjoy working close to Linux system operations and automating recurring processes? In this role, you combine operational responsibility for production systems with automation and CI/CD-related processes.

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer (m/f/d) for an established medium-sized technology company. Our client develops specialised IT systems for a security-critical government and telecommunications environment, where stability and careful documentation are important.

The position is being refilled following an employee’s departure. At the same time, the requirements for automation and operations are increasing; the role is intended to strengthen stability and standardisation in system operations. The focus is on Linux system operations and practical implementation, not on cloud or platform engineering.

Your responsibilities

  • You operate and administer Linux systems, particularly RedHat and CentOS.
  • You automate recurring tasks with Ansible.
  • You maintain build, delivery and deployment processes.
  • You manage artefact repositories such as Nexus.
  • You carry out CI/CD-related tasks using GitLab and Jenkins.
  • You package software with RPM.
  • You operate and maintain virtual machines on VMware.
  • You monitor and optimise existing systems and coordinate technical matters with development teams.

What you bring

What you should have:

  • Several years’ practical experience in Linux/Unix administration
  • Experience with Ansible or comparable automation tools
  • Confident use of Git and GitLab
  • Experience with virtual environments, particularly VMware
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD processes
  • Good German language skills, at least B2 level
  • Structured way of working
  • Careful documentation
  • Sense of responsibility in production operations

Experience with the following is a plus:

  • Jenkins, GitLab CI or Bamboo
  • SonarQube
  • Nexus
  • RPM packaging
  • Monitoring
  • Telecommunications or service provider environment
  • Basic Java knowledge
  • English

What makes this role interesting

You work on systems where stability and reliable operational processes are essential. The role is designed to be hands-on and offers professional development towards a specialisation in automation or operations.

The focus is on developing your expertise; internal team moves are possible when a suitable opportunity arises.

How you work

You work in a traditional IT operations setup with Linux and Windows administrators. Collaboration is characterised by flat hierarchies and direct communication.

Terms and conditions

  • Permanent, full-time position, 40 hours per week
  • Location: Bad Homburg
  • Hybrid working, with around 50% working from home on a monthly basis; regular on-site attendance
  • Trust-based working hours, with core hours from 9 am to 3 pm
  • 30 days’ holiday
  • Occupational supplementary health insurance and a canteen subsidy
  • Parking, drinks, fruit and regular company events
  • No regular travel required
