Can you continue to develop an established backend technically while ensuring reliable integrations?

We are looking for you as a Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) for a software company that develops software for US parcel shipping. You will work as part of a team on integrations with external e-commerce platforms and marketplaces, through which orders are transferred and shipping labels are created.

The team is growing, and there is more development work than available capacity. They are looking for an experienced person who initiates technical discussions and takes responsibility without filling a formal leadership role.

Your responsibilities

  • You develop new integrations with e-commerce platforms and marketplaces.
  • You maintain and improve existing interfaces.
  • You develop backend and API solutions.
  • You refactor existing code.
  • You contribute to the continued development of the backend architecture.
  • You further develop the hexagonal architecture and modularisation of the monolith.
  • You work with the Product Manager on the continued development of the product.
  • You suggest improvements and contribute to technical decisions.

What you bring

What you should have:

  • Several years of practical experience with PHP 8
  • Very good understanding of object oriented software development
  • Experience with backend architectures
  • Experience with APIs and integrations
  • Experience with Domain Driven Design
  • Independent working style
  • Experience on larger software projects

Experience with the following is a plus:

  • GraphQL
  • TypeScript
  • Docker
  • Cloud infrastructure

What makes this role interesting

You will work on an existing product that is continually being developed. Alongside maintaining existing integrations, new platform connections are regularly created. In the coming years, the focus will also be on extending the hexagonal architecture, modularising the monolith and reducing technical debt.

The role gives you the opportunity to develop your technical responsibility and help shape architectural topics. Over time, the role is intended to involve greater architectural responsibility, participation in company wide architecture initiatives and progression towards Senior+.

How you work

Product development is agile and focused on backend development. You work closely with the Product Manager and take the initiative on architectural topics.

AI tools are used voluntarily and in a supporting capacity within the team, for example for coding, test generation or code reviews. There is no central AI strategy.

Terms and conditions

  • Full-time or part-time employment
  • Location in Hamburg-Ottensen, with remote work possible
  • At least one shared office day per month, with less on-site attendance possible for greater distances
  • Flexible working hours
  • 30 days of holiday
  • €3,000 annual training budget
